Matthew Scott lived in the city of Philadelphia, PA, at the time of the time of the Declaration of Independence and was taken prisoner at the Battle of Trenton and confined on the ever memorable prison ship of the British seven weeks.

John L. Myers was the third son of Samuel and ELizabeth Myers, was a competent farmer of his day, was on of the first to bring fine cattle into Fayette County, in 1837 he bought the celebrated bull Mohawk from Clay and Strebelfrila of Kentucky which made such a fine improvement of that day, in 1850 was engaged with the Sioto importing company from England the bull Lord Nelson the Duram cattle. Served his country in the State Legislature in the Sessions of 1874 and 75, is still living at this date 1878 a tolerable active man.

Genealogy of a part of the Scott Family and the Myers and Vance families

Mathew Scott lived in the City of Philadelphia, PA, at the time of the declaration of Independence 1776 and was a Soldier in the War for our Independence and was taken prisoner at the Battle of Trenton and convfined in the ever memorable prison ship of the British for seven weeks.
Mary Scott daughter of the above M. Scott the subject of this sketch was born November the 8 1777 in the city of Philadephia her parents sometime after her birth moved to Shipensburg in PA. She was there married to Samuel Kirk in 1795 and moved to Ross County OH in 1798. Mr. Kirk died in August 1800 leaving her a widow. She lived with her brother Doctor Joseph Scott and was married to General William Vance, then a member of the State Senate from Belmont county OH, in March 1804. William Vance was born Sept the 12th 1767 in the state of VA.

Jacob Myers, the grandfather of the writer of this sketch, was american born and lived in Philadephia County PA. He was a hammerman by trade, was exempted from Military duty of account of his skill in working iron and all iron was drawn out under a forge hammer at that day, 1776. Jacob had 4 brothers, two of them were killed in the War of the Revolution.

Samuel Myers oldest son of Jacob and Cristena Myers was born June the 11, 1776 in Philadelphia County PA, moved from there to what was the called new VA Botatant County, there in the year 1794 he married Elizabeth Smith who was raised at Shepardstown in the Shenedoah Vally VA and in 1807 moved from Botatourt County to the first time to of Fayette County OH, then a territory. Samuel Myers taught the first school that was taught in Madison Township, Fayettte Co. He was one of the first Justice of the Pease in the county and served the people for thirty years in that capacity. Was the second Represertatives elected from the County in the State Legislature when it sat a Chillicothe 1812, he was also a member in 1818. Served his country in the War of 1812 in the capacity of a Captain of a Company and Major of a batallion. He organized on of the first Militia companies ever got up in the county the last office he held in the Military Department was a Colonel's commission.
