RETURN JONATHAN MEIGS, GOVERNOR AND COMMANDER IN CHIEF OF THE SAID STATE,
TO Samuel Myers Esq. Greeting:
It being certified to me that you are duly elected Captain of the 4th company in the odd battalion, of the - - regiment, third brigade, and Second division of militia in this state.
NOW KNOW YOU, That by virtue of the powers vested in me by the constitution and laws of said
state; and reposing special trust and confidence in your courage, activity, fidelity and good conduct, I do by these presents, commission you as Captain of Said Company hereby authorizing and requiring you to discharge all, and singular, the duties and services appertaining to your said office, agreeably to law, and such instructions as you shall from time to time, receive from your superior officers.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my name, and caused the GREAT SEAL of the State of Ohio to be affixed at ZANESVILLE, the thirtieth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eleven, and in the thirty-6th year of the Independence of the United States of America. {30 November 1811}
